Join Harry Thompson, Vicky Whitefoot, Debra Kennedy and Karen Brannan for talks and conversations on the topic of Pathological Demand Avoidance - a behaviour profile within the autism spectrum. Never an easy topic, but expect an enlightening and honest account of life with Pathological Demand Avoidance.
The day will be kicked off with the housekeeping and an introduction by Karen Brannan. Karen Brannan is a Family Practitioner with 28 years’ experience in a variety of settings within the local authority. Karen currently supports families on a one to one basis and in group work settings, and is the facilitator of several programmes including family links, parent network and PDA autism Wrexham (Facebook groups) and parent support group.
Debra Kennedy will then give a talk on PDA from a professional's perspective. Debra Kennedy is a Youth Worker with 18 years’ experience working with teenagers and parents. She is the author/facilitator of The Willow program for parents and young people (Child to Adult abuse) and is currently based in a local secondary school in Wrexham as a school-based youth work coordinator working with teenagers and parents. Debra also works part time for parent support team facilitating parent programmes during early evenings. Delivers CPA training within local authority.
Following Debra's presentation, Vicky Whitefoot (PDA mum) will share her experience in raising a PDA child. Vicky's daughter, aged 9, is undiagnosed and currently awaiting assessments for ASD, ADHD and dominant PDA profile.
And finally, the very eloquent author and speaker (and adult living with PDA), Harry Thompson, will then deliver a talk in which he will offer unique, descriptive insights into PDA from a first person perspective. This will be followed by a Q & A session where you will have the opportunity to ask Harry whatever you want. Harry Thompson is a PDA Expert & Consultant, Public Speaker and the author of The PDA Paradox - The Highs and Lows of My Life on a Little-Known Part of The Autism Spectrum.
Doors open at 17.30 for a 17.30 start. The programme will finish at around 20.15, with refreshments and an opportunity to network and meet and chat with the speakers afterwards.
We do hope you are able to make this wonderful opportunity to engage with some of the people who are most able to explain how life works - and doesn’t - with Pathological Demand Avoidance.
