The Child Therapy Service CIC are delighted to bring leading professionals together for an Empowering Expert Workshop. 

Workshops are designed for parents, carers and professionals who support children and young people with special educational needs. They aim to empower and enlighten you, so that you feel confident in advocating and supporting a child(ren) who need a little extra to enrich their life and learning experiences.

09:00 – Understanding PDA

Delivered by Harry Thompson, author to PDA Paradox: The Highs and Lows of My Life on a Little-Known Part of the Autism Spectrum, Harry has been elected to a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), in recognition of his work in the field of PDA, and the publication of his book.

11.15am - Speech, Language & Communication

Delivered by award winning Speech & Language Therapist Libby Hill of Small Talk Speech & Language Therapy:

• What is Speech & Language Therapy and communication development?

• And why do children need it? (Autism, PDA & other presentations will be covered)

• What assessments are needed and how to access help?

• What strategies can be used at home and school to develop communication?

• What sort of things can be written into EHCPs?

Every workshop will involve a Q&A session at the end of each talk, so be sure to bring your questions with you!

I work in the Education/Health/Care sector, can I attend?

Absolutely! We want to share the right information with everyone who supports children and young people with special educational needs, or additional needs, and we would love for you to attend.

My child doesn't have a diagnosis, can I still attend?

Yes, absolutely! This is for you. You have questions that need answering I'm sure, so let us help.

I've been told my child is not eligible for an EHCP, but he/she is in need of additional support in school. Shall I attend?

Absolutely you should, as we can explain how you can go about gaining the support your child needs.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There isn't parking available, however you can park in the Eastbourne Station car park, nearby streets or at the Enterprise car park.

Can I bring my child/children?

The event is not suitable for children, and so we recommend they do not attend.
