ABA is Abuse
A primary objective of ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) is to make autistic individuals indistinguishable from their peers.
The barbarous practise of ABA seeks to instil into the autistic child that their true autistic self is wrong, unacceptable and not fit for purpose, and thus leaves them with no choice but to abandon their true autistic self and mask - which has documented, negative impacts on a person's well-being. The child quickly and harrowingly learns that there are dire consequences to being authentic.
The mask constitutes but a thin layer atop a person's disposition. It is a salute to society, this miniscule, negligible husk on which other human beings place an inordinate amount of value. So long as this thin outer layer is polished, presentable, homogenous and up to snuff, who cares what kind of hellish nightmare the autistic person is experiencing underneath?
“I had virtually no socially-shared nor consciously, intentionally expressed, personhood beyond this performance of a non-autistic ‘normality’ with which I had neither comprehension, connection, nor identification. This disconnected constructed facade was accepted by the world around me when my true and connected self was not. Each spoonful of its acceptance was a shovel full of dirt on the coffin in which my real self was being buried alive…” (Williams, 1996: 243).
ABA is abuse. Wilfully putting your child through this grotesque procedure does not make you come across as wanting your child to "improve" but instead as wanting a part of your child (the most essential and enduring part of your child) to die - as it negates and invalidates who they truly are in their heart, in favour of a more normal and socially acceptable child - essentially in favour of a different child.
Listen to actually autistic people about their experiences before you take anyone else's advice.
